One of Chicagoland's top five courses, Orchard Valley Golf Course, is an 18 hole, 6,800 yard, par 72 championship layout open to the public. Featuring four sets of tees, this beautiful course offers the appropriate challenge to all skill levels.
The practice center features a full service driving range with a bent-grass tee, bluegrass tee and artificial turf mats for use in inclement weather. The practice green offers golfers an opportunity to practice sand bunker shots and chipping. The driving range includes target greens at distances of 140, 160 and 200 yards.
Orchard Valley has been distinguished by Golf Digest Magazine as a four 1/2 star facility. The 15,000 square foot clubhouse features a full service restaurant. The Orchard Valley Golf Shop features the latest in equipment, men's and ladies' fashions and a wide variety of gift ideas. It has been named one of America's top 100 shops.
"We're very proud of what we've accomplished", says Tom Tierney, Orchard Valley's Head Golf Professional. "Our vision was to create a golfing experience that, from course conditions to guest services, offers the public course player a truly unique experience at an affordable price."
Amid the 6,800 yards, the course features a diverse blend of natural challenges such as meandering wetlands, lakes, roughs, water hazards, bunkers, hollows and waterfalls. The holes vary in length and difficulty from the shortest par 3, 163 yards, to a par 5, 551 yards.
For the lower handicapped player, these elements will offer a truly challenging game that tests both skills and nerves - punishing wayward shots while rewarding careful ones.
Orchard Valley will appeal to the higher handicapped player as well. Every hole features multiple tees. As an alternative to many hazardous drives, bailouts are amply provided for a more playable option.
Golfers of any level will find Orchard Valley's signature 12th hole especially memorable. Combining natural beauty with challenge, the green on this Par 3, 158 yard hole is bordered on the left by a lake. Reaching the hole's multi-leveled putting surface will truly test a player's courage. A series of natural waterfalls adorning the green's edge will add an element of comfort to a hole destined to be a classic compared to any other Chicagoland area course.
"My primary motivation in the design of Orchard Valley was to transform the landscape into a variety of memorable golf holes for all abilities to enjoy, " says golf course architect Ken Kavanaugh, to whom the responsibility of designing Orchard Valley was entrusted.
No stranger to creating memorable experiences, Kavanaugh has already fashioned a respectable reputation for himself. Among his course designs scattered nationwide, his 1985 back nine designed for Golf Canyon Golf Club in Apache Junction, Arizona includes 3 holes which garnered annual acclaim in the Arizona Republic's reader poll of "most popular 29 holes in the valley". In addition, Southwyck Golf Club, also a Kavanaugh creation, opened in 1989 to tremendous praise and is presently the home of the 17-time NCAA champion Houston University Golf Team.
"Orchard Valley has exceeded my original expectations as the premier daily fee course in the midwest," Kavanaugh adds, "I've been very proud to have been associated with this project."
Orchard Valley's commitment to excellence can be measured off the fairway as well. The facility features a first class restaurant where a golfer can choose between a casual bite in the bar overlooking the finishing hole, or a formal dinning experience in the luxurious comfort of the main dining room.
The golf shop is in a class by itself. It is completely stocked with the latest equipment as well as the freshest selection of mens & ladies sports and resort wear. Tierney is also quick to remind guests that any item not in stock is just a phone call away. "From the moment guests drop off their clubs, to the time they are carefully stowed in their trunk after the round, we strive to deliver the highest level of service possible: A level of service that will leave a truly lasting impression."
